Good Evening Darlings,

Today will be showing you how to make batbout stuffed with sardines - YUM! Batbout is the Moroccan pan bread that can be eaten at breakfast, lunch or dinner! You can either use it to dip and eat OR you can make mini batbouts, which is what I did for this recipe, and stuff them with anything you like! Let's start.

To make batbout, you will need...

Ingredients:

2 cups of flour

1.5 tsp of yeast

1 tsp of salt

1 tsp of sugar

2 tablespoons of milk powder (i.e Nido)

About 1 and half cups of warm water

1 cup of semolina *optional*

Directions:

Combine dry ingredients first flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and milk powder. Mix well. Slowly poor in the water and mix simultaneously until the dough comes together and is soft. It should feel a little sticky, that's ok. Sprinkle a little flour on your counter and work the dough a little more, bring it all together and then cut your dough into small even pieces. Now, take your small pieces of dough and form a ball with each one. Dip them into the semolina if you have it. Let the balls rest for 5 minutes covered. Now, sprinkle your work surface with either flour or semolina, pat your balls down and form into a circle using a rolling pin, making sure that the dough is not too thin but not too thick either. Let your dough rest another 25-30 minutes. Heat pan on med-high heat, place your dough on the pan flipping every 2 minutes or so, cooking each side evenly. Read next post for the stuffing recipe :)

Asmaa's Cooking Tips:

#1

As intimidating as using a pressure cooker might seem, it will become your BFF! Cooking with a pressure cooker in some recipes can cut the cooking time down in half.

#2

Ginger, cinnomen & tumeric are in almost all Moroccan recipes! So have them handy.

#3

Always becareful with the salt. It's better to have to add salt, because if you put too much you can't take it away!
